I may or may not have an interview tomorrow that will be a total waste of time…reeks of pyramid schemes. BUT
today I went to the ROM :D and saw the water exhibit. Twas aiight! It was no geology section though - I can’t help put wonder at the plethora of beautiful colours, textures, and structures. I just want to go in there with a lick of design knowledge and cook up a collection of amazing summer dresses and shoes inspired by minerals. Alas, I can only gaze. And any kid that grew up in Toronto is still morning the death of the awesome bat cave. For whatever reason, they re-did it and now it sucks :( Much less scary. Then I saw some Czech animated films. If you’ve never seen one, you should watch The Hand by Jiri Trnka: (part 1) (part 2).
There’s no dialogue so it’s understandable by all! Puppets are a huge part of Czech film and theatre and there is a range of awesome films from children’s stuff (like Hurvinek ) to adult’s stuff (like Lekce Faust by Jan Svankmajer ).
Jan Svankmajer is one of the most illustrious animators in the ENTIRE world and totally innovated stop-motion animation and plasticine animation :
-Dimensions of Dialogue: (part 1) (part 2)
Another fun fact, the animation team behind the Fantastic Planet (which should be seen by all) was made up of many Czechs :D SO - please watch the videos and expand your animation vocabulary to include some wonderful Czech films!
